It had been a long time since she had felt hunger like this. That gnawing, steady pain in her gut that she had tried to put aside. It was back. It wasn't hard to sustain yourself with food when out in the wild, especially with such resources that Kayko Island offered. Yet when you are alone, you can lose track of time and your hunger, which is exactly what happened to Harbinger.
Food has always been just waiting to be caught. she mused as she walked on light feet through the woods. Her light brown hair slid from side to side with each step, and Harbinger's gray-blue eyes glanced around with focus. Her brown jacket was unzipped, the collar pulled high against her neck, and she wore beige shorts. Yet when you truly need the food, it all hides. One of the many complexions of the way nature worked, no doubt. Harbinger's stomach gave off a low growl, and the girl cursed herself for not noting her hunger earlier. When she started walking, she got into a certain pattern, where she didn't regard much else but her footsteps, breathing and heartbeat; something that often caused trouble for Harbinger.
The forest was loud with noise, birds crying out their songs in the high and low canopy as the leaves fluttered in the light breeze. The sound of the leaves sliding over one another was calming and soft, so Harbinger tried to take comfort in that as she walked. The morning was still young, and she had all the time she wanted to fight off the hunger. Yet better sooner than later, since the feeling painfully reminded the girl of her time back at the School, where she would spend days on end not eating. "Food. Think about food." She whispered to herself, glancing around with sharp hawk eyes.
As simple as it would be to catch a bird, Harbinger couldn't stand to attack something that she could be considered related to. She had trouble killing things as it was, so attacking a bird would complicate things even more. Ground prey was the easiest, and it was often good to get a rabbit or two. In order to catch rabbits though, you'd need a good open field and a few traps, maybe a bow and arrow... Harbinger's train of thought suddenly stopped as she caught the faint but distinct sound of burbling. Running water. She thought with great joy, and with that, broke into a run, following the sound to break out of the forest and into the open.
A wide brook stretched before her, and Harbinger allowed herself a small smile. Maybe there were fish in here, stalled in a small pool. Yet... catching them might prove difficult with just her bare hands. Letting go of an unhappy breath, the girl flopped down onto the ground, sitting, and then lying on her side as she stared into the water. She'd keep watch for any food as she rested from her continuous walking. Yet be it from hunger or fatigue, the girl was soon fast asleep.
